Designing Addiction

So game designers are now using behavioural psychology to create addiction: http://tinyurl.com/yzsyhek While this is an excellent way to generate revenue, it seems dangerous to encourage potentially unhealthy and damaging obsessive behaviour by offering rewards for "pushing the button." This also seems prevalent in social networks and other "sticky" areas of the web, with sites publicizing the number of virtual friends we have, retweets, website hits, favourited-pictures, Google hits etc etc. I guess uncle Ben said it best, speaking to Peter "Spiderman" Parker in the film Spiderman, featuring Spiderman: "With great power comes great responsibility."
